Priv. Doz. Dr. phil. Dierk
Spreen.
Study of political
sciences, sociology and psychology in Freiburg im Breisgau.
In 1998 I got my doctorate in
sociology through the thesis "Tausch, Technik, Krieg. Die Geburt der
Gesellschaft im technisch-medialen Apriori" (trans. "Trade,
Technology
and
War. The Birth of Society in the Technical-Medial
Apriori")
which
combines social theory and media theory. It is conceptualized as a
genealogy of modern society in a context of discourses on media.
Also in 1998 I published a work on the postmodern body-concept "cyborg"
("Cyborgs und andere Techno-Körper. Ein Essay im Grenzbereich von Bios
und Techne"; trans. "Cyborgs
and
other
Techno-Bodies. An Essay On The
Threshold Between Life and Technology").
In 2006 I received the postdoctoral lecture qualification
(Habilitation) through a work on the relationship between modern
society and war ("Krieg und Gesellschaft. Die Konstitutionsfunktion des
Krieges für moderne Gesellschaften"; trans. "War
and
Society. The
Constitutional Function of War for Modern Societies"). It carries out
research into the effects of war as constitutional for modern societies
at the example of Germany. Modernity and modern society, it argues,
cannot been understood when generally separated from war.
